About

Welcome. I like to think of myself as an average guy that speaks as an average guy. I do not profess nor desire to be known as someone who is anything other than that. If I come across as a someone who you read and think that you could see yourself having a casual conversation with me, then I have succeeded.

What I am going to write about on a weekly basis will be about my journey on finding a balance between my work life and my personal life. I will share with you some of the successes that I have experienced as well as some bumps in the path. I will also write on the topics of healthcare and leadership. Now, don’t get worried, I will write these in a manner that is similar to two colleagues sharing thoughts and ideas on these matters. In regard to healthcare I will give you my thoughts not only as someone whose career has been centered in healthcare but also with the perspective that I am an American citizen who also faces the same challenges you do in this aspect of your lives.  I hope to offer a perspective that you may not get from other sources on this topic.

I invite you and would be honored if you would subscribe to my blog. You can choose how often if ever to receive an email. This will keep us connected and should you choose to read my blogs I would not only welcome but humbly request your feedback. I want this to be a two-way conversation.

A little bit of background on me. I am originally from Ruskin, FL just outside of Tampa. I am married to Lauralea Tanner and have a three-year old son named Cawthon. I received my B.A. degree from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. I was not a traditional four-year college student. It took me a good while to complete my degree while working. I have been in or around healthcare for most of my career with a brief foray into the printing industry but like many, I found myself coming back to healthcare. I have been a Controller for a 50+ doctor multi-specialty physician practice and a hospital CFO. Eventually I realized that maintaining things did not provide me with long-term satisfaction so I went into healthcare consulting for hospital clients. This was extremely rewarding and I expected to continue. But then came along an opportunity to be a mini-entrepreneur for a vendor to the healthcare providers. I say mini because I had a very small stake in the company but my role as CFO was to help build and package the company for sale in three to five years.  We sold in one year. Guess who found themselves back in the consulting business? I am not complaining, this changed my vision for what I wanted to do in my career. Sure enough, another opportunity to play mini-entrepreneur came up. That is where I am today at EnableComp, Inc. in Franklin, TN. I not only love this company but I so deeply admire and respect the people who I work with. I feel truly blessed. Ok, enough about me.
